Enabling Specific "Permissions" to Sub Catalogs Follow
When using Sub-Catalogs there could be a case where you may want one group to see all Sub-Catalogs and another group be only able to see a few. In our instance, we will set up a scenario where we have two Groups (Corporate/Franchisee) and 3 Catalogs (Business Cards/Letterheads/Envelopes). The Corporate group should see all 3 and the Franchisee should only see 2 of them.
Groups:
- Corporate
- Franchisee
Catalogs:
- Business Stationery (Top Catalog/Parent)
- Business Cards (Child/Sub-Catalog)
- Letterheads (Child/Sub-Catalog)
- Envelopes (Child/Sub-Catalog)
By default, turning the parent catalog "Business Stationery" On will create a situation where the group can see each sub-catalog because they inherit permissions from their parent. To change this functionality open the sub-catalog that has special permissions and turn on the option Enable Permissions. This will cause the catalog to appear inside of the Users & Groups section and will be Off by default. Now you have fine control over which users see the catalog by going to the appropriate group, in our instance Corporate. Go to User & Group and the Catalogs section. Here you will find the catalog that you enabled permissions for and you can now turn that On. To accomplish our scenario above, in the Corporate group the Business Cards catalog will be On and in the Franchisee group the catalog will be Off
You will only need to make this change for your special catalogs that have an extra level of permission.
