Service Departments & Categories Follow
Overview
Printer's Plan will organize all services within pre-determined Service Departments & Categories. Departments represent the overall production department while Categories are used to organize specific groupings or types of services. The organization of services is important to establish a preferred workflow as well as the order in which Services are listed on quotes and orders. Each Category that contains a specific type of Service selected. Below is an example that represents best practices when it comes to organization of Services.

How It Works
Creating and Organizing Service Departments and Categories
In the Services section, click Service Settings and select Departments and Categories…

The “Service Departments and Categories” window appears.

Note: Click the (+) Plus Sign to expand Departments to view Categories.
Functions of the "Service Departments and Categories" Window
Description | Function |

Add Department |
Click to add a new Service Department and then enter the name. Keep the name brief to save space on screens and reports where it is used to complement the Service name. Limit: 12 Departments. |
Add Category |
Highlight a Department and click Add Category. 1. Select the Category type 2. Enter the Category name Limit: 100 Categories per Department |
Move to Top / Up / Down / Bottom |
Reorder the list of Departments and Categories. Click and drag to move Categories between Departments. NOTE: Click the Department or Category before using a movement button. |
Rename |
Click after you select the Department or Category you want to rename. |
Change Color |
Used with Departments only. Click to assign a fixed color to the Department. |
Delete |
Click after selecting the Department or Category to delete. NOTE: Deleting a Department also deletes all its Categories. You cannot delete a Category with existing Services. |

Category Types
Printer’s Plan supports the following eleven Category types:
- Paper
- Offset Press
- Digital Printer
- Large Format Medium
- Large Format Printer
- Carbonless (Unique)
- Envelope (Unique)
- Plate (Unique)
- Proof (Unique)
- Quick Sale (Unique)
- Other
The default Printer’s Plan database includes multiple Envelope categories. These can be removed, but once deleted, you can only re-add one Envelope Category. All default Envelope categories have the same configuration.
Once Departments and Categories are created, you can begin setting up Services. Highlight a Category and click New to open a Service setup window.
