Shop Floor Data Collection - Setup Follow
URL
You will be provided with a unique URL to access the Shop Floor module. Shop Floor employees do not require direct access to Midnight and instead access Shop Floor through this dedicated URL.
In most cases, the Shop Floor URL follows the format:
https://shopfloor{yourmidnightdomain}.vsmidnight.com
For example, if your Midnight URL is:
https://pixelpaperprinting.vsmidnight.com
your Shop Floor URL would be:
https://shopfloorpixelpaperprinting.vsmidnight.com
Users can access this URL directly from workstations, kiosks, tablets, or production floor displays to perform Shop Floor Data Collection activities such as clocking into jobs, recording production time, updating job status, and tracking labor activity.
Please contact Print Reach Support if you need assistance obtaining your Shop Floor URL.
Create Shop Floor Data Collection Module Login
Each machine the Shop Floor app will be run on should have its own login created in the Midnight application.
- Each Shop Floor Data Collection login must have a username starting with the text ‘shopfloor’. Example, Shopfloor1, Shopfloor2, etc.
- These logins are setup in the Midnight Management system in the admin section on the Employee screen. Simply enter Shopfloor in the last name and define the username and password for the account.
- Logging in to the Shop Floor Data Collection Module is intended to be a one-time activity by a supervisor or manager. Shop Floor users will then pin in using the setup kiosk code.

Create Employee Kiosk Code
The Kiosk Code is configured within the employee's record in Midnight.
Admin → Employees → Select Employee → Job Tracking Tab
Within the Job Tracking tab, enter a unique Kiosk Code for the employee, select either Operator or Helper as the Employee Type, and save the record.
Other Job Tracking Settings
The Job Tracking tab contains additional employee-specific settings used by Job Costing, Kiosk Time Clock, and Shop Floor Data Collection.
Available fields are:
- Wage Rate: The employee's hourly wage rate. This value is used when calculating labor costs.
- Burden Rate: The overhead cost associated with each hour of labor captured through Job Costing. This value is typically used to account for expenses beyond the employee's wage, such as benefits, insurance, equipment, and facility costs.
- Multiple Jobs: Determines whether the employee can be clocked into multiple jobs simultaneously.
- Number of Jobs: Specifies the maximum number of jobs the employee can be logged into at the same time when Multiple Jobs is enabled.
- Temporary Employee: Identifies the employee as a temporary worker.
- Kiosk Time Clock Required: Requires the employee to clock in and clock out of the Shop Floor time clock each day.
- Estimated Break: Allows the employee to select a preconfigured break associated with their shift.
- Unpaid Break: Allows the employee to manually clock out and back in for an unpaid break. The actual break duration is deducted from the employee's paid time.
- Paid Break: Allows the employee to manually clock out and back in for a paid break. The break duration is deducted from Job Costing time but remains part of the employee's paid hours.
- Kiosk Code: The employee login code used to access the Shop Floor Data Collection module. Each employee must have a unique Kiosk Code. The code must be numeric and can be up to 8 digits in length.
- Employee Type: Select either Operator or Helper. This setting determines how the employee is categorized when labor is captured through Job Costing and Shop Floor Data Collection.
Designate a Break and Department
Each employee must be associated with a Shift and Department to utilize the Clock In / Clock Out functionality. This is defined in Midnight Admin/Employee.
Location: Admin>Shifts>Select shift from dropdown
Midnight – Configure Shift Settings
Shifts are defined in Midnight Admin / Shifts. It’s recommended that you not delete shifts, as it may retroactively affect the times of staff previously dependent on it when generating reports.
These Break fields are displayed in the upper left corner of your Shop Floor Data Collection Module when one is Clocked In.
Midnight – Configure Break in/out labels
You may customize a label for the break-in and break-out options for when employees record their actual break time. When paid and/or unpaid breaks are enabled at the employee record, the actual break time is deducted from the job cost record(s) and the time record.
Location: Admin>Global Settings>ShopFloor
Enter the label for the break-in and out options for paid and unpaid breaks using language that would help guide your team.
Service Types
Service Types determine which services are available in the Shop Floor Data Collection module.
To manage Service Types, navigate to Admin > Service Types in Midnight. The list displays the Departments or Profit Centers that have been configured and are available on Estimates and Orders. Many service types, such as Creative Work, Design, or Data Processing, are not typically tracked through Shop Floor data collection.
To prevent a service type from appearing in the Shop Floor Data Collection module, select the Kiosk Hide checkbox for that service type. Hidden service types remain available elsewhere in Midnight but will not be visible to Shop Floor users when tracking production activity.
For additional information, see the Service Types article.
Default DJB Task Status
The Default DJB Task Status setting determines the status that will automatically be applied to a DJB task when an employee jobs into or out of a task through Shop Floor Data Collection.
To configure this setting, navigate to:
Admin > Global Settings > DJB
The Default DJB Task Status is the first setting on the DJB Settings page. Select the status that should be assigned automatically during the job-in and job-out process. This helps ensure task statuses are updated consistently and reduces the need for manual status changes by Shop Floor users.
