Renaming Reports Follow
Midnight allows administrators to change the display name of reports without any programming knowledge. Each report contains a Display Name field that controls the name users see when selecting a report to run. Many organizations choose to update report names so they better align with internal terminology, company workflows, or employee preferences.
Unlike modifying a report, changing a report's Display Name does not require the report to be cloned. The existing report can simply be renamed by updating its Display Name within Report Objects. This allows organizations to customize report names while continuing to use the original report and receive future updates to Midnight stock reports.
To rename a report, navigate to Admin by clicking the gear icon in the upper-right corner of Midnight. From the Administration menu, select Report Objects.
To rename a report:
- Locate the report you wish to update in the list of available reports.
- Click the Edit button on the far right side of the report record.
- Update the value in the Display Name field.
- Click the Update icon to save your changes.
In this example, we're changing a report with the Display Name Inventory: Material By Version Report to Version Production Materials.
Once you save the change, the updated Display Name will immediately be reflected throughout Midnight for all users. The next time a user opens a report selection window, the report will appear using the new name. Only the display name is changed; the report itself, including its functionality, calculations, parameters, and data, remains unchanged.
