How to Set Up Inventory to be Used/Accessible within the Print Calculator Follow
Overview
The print calculator tool, an indispensable feature within the Midnight software suite, stands as a pinnacle of power and versatility. Its multifaceted capabilities empower users to navigate the complexities of print projects with ease and precision. Yet, mastering its full potential requires a nuanced understanding of its intricacies. This includes knowing how to properly set up your inventory items so that they are selectable within the print calculator.
How It Works
The print calculator contains a tab called 'Paper Details' where you can pull in a specific paper type to use when estimating your print job.
You have the flexibility and option to limit this paper detail menu to display ONLY print related material to use in your estimating. For example, you would not want to include non-print related inventory in this drop down menu such as boxes or coil material since you don't print on those items. The inclusion of those items would clutter this menu.
Key Points
In order to set up just print related material to display in the paper details menu, there are a few things you have to do when setting up your material. See below for breakdown and note the screenshot below as a map to the numbered points:
- Make sure the inventory item is active. This checkbox defaults to active when creating a new inventory item but still something to confirm.
- The global checkbox, when checked, allows you to use this inventory item on any order for any customer (globally), not just the customer that the inventory item is associated with. If it is unchecked, it will allow you to use this item on only orders for the customer that the inventory is associated with (ie; BR Strategies in the screenshot example). This setting, checked or unchecked, is not required for the item to display in the print calculator but it is worth noting here as a FYI when setting up your inventory items in relation to creating orders for specific customers.
- Material Type needs to be selected to either 'Sheet' or 'Roll' in order to have the item display in the Paper Details drop down menu in the print calculator. This field correlates with a similar field on the press that you select in the calculator. For example, if you select a press in the calculator that is set as a 'sheet' fed press, then you will only see paper display that is marked as 'sheet' for the material type when you view the Paper Details menu in the print calculator. The same thing goes for roll fed inventory correlating with roll fed printers.
- Finally, in the Admin menu, there is a menu for item types settings. You can determine which item types should be visible on the various Midnight calculators (eg; print, wf, laminate, and mount)
- See steps below to view and customize item type display for the various Midnight calculators.
