Custom Inventory (Paper) in the Print Calculator Follow
The Custom Paper feature allows you to use a one-time or customer-supplied paper stock on an Estimate or Order without creating a permanent inventory item.
This is especially useful when:
- A customer provides their own paper for a specific job
- You are using a specialty stock that will only be used once
- You need to complete the Print Calculator setup, but do not want to maintain the stock in inventory
When Custom Paper is used:
- The paper details remain tied only to that specific Estimate or Order
- The stock is not tracked in inventory
- The paper details appear on Work Orders and the Inventory (Custom): Pull Ticket for production visibility
Enabling Custom Paper
To use this feature, you must first enable Custom Inventory in Global Settings.
Navigate To
Admin → Global Settings → Estimates/Orders
Then enable:
Enable Custom Inventory
Enable Custom Inventory
Using Custom Paper in an Estimate
Once enabled, the Custom Inventory tab will appear within the Print Calculator.
When creating an Estimate, users can manually enter the custom paper details needed for that specific job.
This allows the system to:
- Successfully create a Print Item using the Print Calculator
- Generate pricing and production details
The paper will only exist for that specific Estimate and will not be added to inventory.
Please note: Paper details will be blank and must be completed. At a minimum, the Parent Sheet Size, and Run Sheet Size are required. In order to capture the cost of the custom inventory Cost/M Sheets is required.
Using Custom Paper in an Order
The same functionality is also available directly within Orders.
Users can select Custom Paper and enter the necessary stock information without creating a permanent inventory item.
This is commonly used when:
- Customers provide their own stock
- Specialty paper is being used for a one-time project
- The shop needs temporary stock visibility for production purposes only
Common Example
A customer supplies their own paper for a print job.
Because the Print Calculator still requires a paper selection, you can:
- Select Custom Paper
- Enter the paper specifications manually
- Complete the Estimate or Order normally
The system will treat the paper as a one-time stock item for that job only.
Work Order / Pull Ticket Visibility
Custom Paper selections will also appear on Work Orders and Pull Tickets so operators know which stock should be used for the job.
Important Notes
- Custom Paper is not inventory-managed
- The stock will not appear in Inventory
- Quantity levels are not tracked
- The paper exists only on the specific Estimate or Order where it was created
