Phase 3 - Session 7 Homework: On-Your-Own Topics Follow
Please review these On-Your-Own Topics and mark the associated GUIDEcx task as Complete before Session 8. These topics are intended for self-study and are generally not covered in detail during implementation sessions.
We highly recommend having Midnight open while reviewing the material and locating each topic within your system. Becoming familiar with the navigation, screens, and settings ahead of time will help you gain a better understanding of the platform and make future implementation sessions more productive.
Tip: As you review these topics, make note of any questions and add them to the Items to Discuss section of the related GUIDEcx task so they can be addressed during a future implementation session if needed.
The Admin Settings panel can be accessed by clicking the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the Home screen.
Tip: In most Administration setup screens, you can add a new record by selecting the blank gray row at the bottom of the list, entering the required information, and clicking Save (disk icon).
- To modify an existing record, click the Edit icon (pencil), make your changes, and then click Save.
- If a record is no longer needed, it can be deactivated by clearing the Active checkbox and saving the record.
- To view inactive records, use the Active filter and select Unchecked.

Admin → Report Objects
The Report Objects screen displays all reports available within Midnight.
From this screen, administrators can:
- Activate or deactivate reports.
- Rename reports.
- Control report visibility.
- Configure whether reports appear on the DJB.
Midnight includes a wide variety of standard reports across all modules. If there are reports that your organization does not use, you can deactivate them in Admin to simplify report selection for your users.
Deactivating unused reports removes them from the report menu, making it easier for users to find the reports they need without scrolling through a long list of irrelevant options. The report itself is not deleted and can be reactivated at any time if needed.
To deactivate a report, click Edit on the far right of the report record. Clear the Active checkbox and save your changes. Once saved, the report will no longer appear in the report menu, helping reduce clutter and prevent confusion for users.
It is highly recommended to limit estimate and order reports to only those that your team actively uses. Doing so helps reduce confusion and ensures users consistently select the correct report.
For example, determine which work order version will serve as your standard and deactivate the others. This eliminates uncertainty for Customer Service Representatives and helps maintain a consistent workflow.
The same approach should be applied to estimate reports. Decide which estimate format(s) should be sent to customers and deactivate any alternatives that are no longer needed. By removing unused reports, you can reduce menu clutter and make it easier for users to quickly locate the correct report.
Admin → Report Type Objects
Available fields are:
- Name: The name of the report category. This is the label used to identify and group related reports.
- Active: Determines whether the report category is active and available for use.
- Show in Reports Menu: Controls whether reports assigned to this category are displayed in the Reports menu.
Generally, Estimate Reports, Order Reports, Warehouse Item Request Reports, and Warehouse Receipt Reports are designed to be run from within their respective modules rather than from the Reports menu. Because of this, these report categories are typically configured to be hidden from the Reports menu.
For example, if an estimate report is launched directly from the Reports menu, the report requires the user to manually enter an Estimate ID. However, when the same report is run from within an estimate record, the Estimate ID is automatically passed to the report, allowing it to generate correctly without additional input.
